What do your services cost?

Great question! It depends on the location, length of stay, number and type of pets, and the responsibilities involved. Rates vary widely between cities, states, and countries because of differences in the cost of living.

In the United States, I typically charge the average house-sitting rate for your city or state; in most cases, more affordable than boarding or kenneling your pets. Sits longer than one month may be arranged as an exchange for accommodation, depending on the care involved.

Sliding scale

Rates are always negotiable, and longer stays may qualify for a greater discount.

Here is an example of the sliding scale for average rates of $100-120 per night on the Hawaiian Islands, *a historically high cost-of-living area:

BEFORE YOU BOOK

There are two reasons. First, I take the local cost of living into consideration. Second, I do not have a legal work permit to work outside my home country. International sits are therefore handled differently from paid sits in the United States.

The homeowner is responsible for all household bills, including:

Rent or mortgage payments
Electricity and gas
Internet
Water and drinking water, if applicable
Gardeners, housekeepers, or other domestic help

You may leave money for domestic help or for any bills that need to be paid manually. Most bills can be paid online, making the process easy and convenient.

Most importantly, the homeowner is responsible for all pet-related expenses throughout the sit, including food, treats, medication, and veterinary care.

Tips are truly appreciated. In addition to monetary tips, past clients have provided:

Gift cards to local grocery stores, coffee shops, or restaurants
Partial or full reimbursement of travel expenses
Assistance arranging local transportation when the nearest airport is outside the pet owner’s city
A basic supply of groceries, such as coffee, milk, and fruit
